FILM SCREENING & DISCUSSION

INVITATION

Within the framework of the International Scholarly Conference
“Reimagining and Rebuilding Palestine: Genocide, Trauma, and the Future of a Suffering Nation,” the Universitas Foundation and the University of Cyprus cordially invite you to attend a screening of the internationally co-produced historical drama film Farha (2021) (with Greek subtitles)

written and directed by Darin J. Sallam, followed by a scholarly discussion.

Thursday, 29 January 2026 | 18:30–20:30

ARTos Cultural and Research House

64 Agioi Omologites Avenue, 1080 Nicosia

Set against the backdrop of the 1948 Nakba, Farha centres on a 14-year-old Palestinian girl whose aspirations for education are abruptly extinguished by the violent destruction of her village. Confined by her father to a storeroom for protection, Farha bears witness—through a narrow opening—to scenes of warfare, displacement, and extreme violence. As massacres unfold within the courtyard of her home, she is confronted with profound loss, betrayal, and moral collapse. Her survival emerges as an act of testimony, preserving historical memory in the face of collective trauma and systematic erasure.

The screening forms an integral part of the conference’s cultural programme and seeks to promote critical reflection and rigorous academic dialogue on historical memory, trauma, and narrative representation in the Palestinian context.
